STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As a way to spread awareness and promote a better understanding of supportive services on the local level, the Central Family Life Center, True 2 Life and YouthBuild joined forces in a collaborative effort to host Springtacular, a free event Saturday afternoon at Tappen Park in Stapleton.

Educators, an entrepreneur, a youth director and community based organization coaches and leaders were honored Friday night at the Councilwoman Debi Rose Celebrates Black History Month event, held at St. Philips Baptist Church in Port Richmond.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Almost 70 young people have directly benefited over the past three years from a Stapleton program offering alternatives to higher education.

Too many young people in our community no longer have the opportunity to dream.

It isn’t just dreams of being an NBA star or billionaire that are out of reach, but even the dreams of a middle class life seem unattainable to them. But, we have real opportunities to change the lives of our youth and support a thriving and ambitious next generation, which will greatly benefit the entire Staten Island community. I have seen this reality, time and time again, in my 20 years as a YouthBuild leader, and now is the moment for our borough to embrace the bold in order to build up our young people.
